Summer Intern Spotlight: A Season of Growth at Peacock Architects

At Peacock Architects, we believe that internships are more than just a stepping stone—they’re an immersive experience that shapes the architects of tomorrow. This National Intern Day, we’re excited to share reflections from three of our summer interns who have been growing, learning, and contributing to meaningful projects at our Fort Lauderdale office.

Megan Casal’s Experience: Mastering Revit and Hands-On Design

What has been the most valuable thing you’ve learned during your time here?
“The most valuable thing I’ve learned during my time here has definitely been Revit. Coming in, I only had a basic, self-taught understanding, but thanks to hands-on experience and great guidance, I’ve boosted my skills and gained insight into the design and documentation process behind architecture. Every day brings something new to learn, and I feel like I’m making stronger contributions to the projects.”

Favorite project or task:
“Helping create elevation views for an office renovation in Chandler, Arizona, for Venture X was my favorite. It allowed me to get creative while sharpening my Revit skills, especially modeling casework, wall accents, and fixtures.”

How has this internship shaped your perspective?
“In school, architecture was mostly about design, but here I’ve learned how much more goes on behind the scenes—client meetings, site visits, project phases. It’s made me excited about the full scope of the profession.”

What’s your favorite part of Peacock’s culture?
“The team is so kind and helpful. As my first internship at an architecture firm, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but everyone’s approachable nature made it feel welcoming and less intimidating. The tight-knit office vibe made it easy to connect and grow.”

Advice to future interns:
“Take initiative. Try to find answers on your own before asking questions. The team is supportive, but everyone is busy, so researching solutions yourself helps you learn more and work more efficiently.”

Ana Rodriguez’s Experience: Seeing Architecture Come to Life

Most valuable learning:
“I’ve learned a lot about the architectural process, especially the early phases like how the scope of work is defined by contracts—something I struggled to grasp before.”

Favorite project:
“I loved visiting a therapy center and school renovation site for children with special needs, taking measurements and then modeling the existing conditions in Revit. It’s exciting to see the transformation digitally and I can’t wait to see the final outcome.”

How has this shaped your career goals?
“This internship confirmed I’m on the right path. Architecture is multifaceted—it’s about teamwork, time management, and detail. These challenges have motivated me to finish my studies and pursue a full-time career.”

Favorite part of the culture:
“It felt like family. Everyone was open and eager to teach, which eased my nerves as an intern. The support and guidance were incredible.”

Advice for future interns:
“Don’t be afraid to take on unfamiliar tasks. Give your best effort and absorb as much as possible, especially in meetings, where you pick up on terminology and project phases.”

Additional thoughts:
“Thank you to the entire Peacock team for the supportive, positive environment and the chance to work on various projects and fieldwork. This internship gave me great insight into the architectural profession.”

Brian Rodriguez’s Experience: Gaining Insight and Collaboration

Most valuable takeaway:
“I gained insight into how projects progress and how they are approached professionally.”

Favorite task:
“3D modeling existing equipment for our Hialeah Middle School renovation project was the highlight.”

How the internship helped:
“It helped me understand what makes an office efficient and productive, and I’ve grown to appreciate the value of renovation projects.”

Favorite part of the culture:
“The collaborative environment and the meaningful connections among team members.”

Advice to future interns:
“Ask many questions. Come ready to learn and grow.”
